Giclee
(pronounced zhee-clay) reproductions were originally
developed as a digital method of printing fine art
images. The images are scanned and digitally
stored in a computer and sent directly to a high resolution,
inkjet printer and then printed on watercolor or paper
canvas. A coating of matte varnish is then sprayed
on to protect the image from fading. Advantages
with giclees are that the resolution, DPI or dots
per inch, are actually higher than traditional lithography.
This provides more crisp clarity to details, richer
and more intense color. Sizes of a giclee can
be smaller or up to actual size of stored images.
Requested orders for other sizes of giclees can be
taken. The proportion of the original dictates
the size proportion of the reproduction. Ready-made
canvas stretchers come in inch increments; ei: 8x10
not 81/2x101/2.
